69. Time Synchronization and State Estimation

Reliable operational understanding requires a consistent time architecture across sensors, controllers, agents, the Building BIOS, the Digital Twin, and external systems.
System05 shall support:
- Synchronized clocks.
- Source timestamps.
- Receipt timestamps.
- Known clock offsets.
- Time-zone identification.
- Event ordering.
- Validity periods.
- Data-freshness limits.
- Delayed-data identification.
- Offline-event reconciliation.
Where exact synchronization is unavailable, the system shall record the limitation and avoid representing uncertain event order as established fact.
State Estimation may combine past observations, current measurements, physical models, operational commands, and known system relationships to estimate conditions that cannot be measured directly.
Estimated states shall identify:
- The estimation method.
- Source observations.
- Applicable model.
- Estimated time.
- Confidence or uncertainty.
- Assumptions.
- Validity period.
- Conditions that would invalidate the estimate.
The system shall distinguish between a current measurement and an estimate carried forward from an earlier state. Stale data shall not remain operationally valid indefinitely merely because no newer measurement exists.
Following offline operation, time discontinuity, or communication recovery, the system shall reconcile event chronology before resuming consequential automated actions.
