Functions may include:
- Monitoring flow and pressure.
- Detecting continuous or unexpected consumption.
- Identifying abnormal pressure changes.
- Localizing suspected leaks.
- Monitoring pump, valve, heater, and treatment-system status.
- Detecting freeze risk.
- Monitoring drainage or wastewater warnings.
- Coordinating authorized shutoff valves.
- Supporting water-quality monitoring.
- Estimating water loss.

Leak response should consider:
- Leak confidence.
- Expected damage.
- Occupancy.
- Affected zone.
- Critical water-dependent equipment.
- Fire-suppression systems.
- Sanitation needs.
- Freeze conditions.
- Availability of manual access.
Automatic isolation shall occur only through approved valves and policies. The agent shall not shut down fire-protection water supplies or other protected systems unless controlled by the applicable certified safety logic and authorized procedure.
After a leak, the agent may assist with isolation verification, moisture monitoring, drying, inspection, repair documentation, and restoration of service.
