Section 82 of 83
81. Evolution and Deprecation
Stable section ID: S05-CON-005-SECTION-82 · 49 content blocks
System05 interfaces shall evolve through controlled addition, revision, migration, and retirement.
Evolution may be required by:
new engineering evidence;
failure or incident history;
regulatory change;
improved safety;
new materials;
manufacturing advancement;
cybersecurity risk;
new robotic capability;
environmental requirements;
insufficient performance;
market or supply-chain conditions.
The preferred order of evolution is:
add optional capabilities without breaking existing compatibility;
add new Profiles;
add certified adapters;
introduce a new minor version;
introduce a new major version only where necessary;
deprecate unsafe or unsupportable versions;
withdraw only when continued use is unacceptable.
The lifecycle of an interface version may include:
proposed;
experimental;
draft;
approved;
active;
mature;
maintenance-only;
deprecated;
obsolete;
withdrawn.
Deprecated means that new use is discouraged and migration should begin, but defined existing use may remain supported.
Obsolete means that new certified production or installation is generally prohibited, while some installed instances may remain temporarily operational under stated conditions.
Withdrawn means that use is no longer authorized within the specified scope because of safety, security, evidence, or governance findings.
A deprecation notice shall include:
affected identities and versions;
reason;
known risks;
effective dates;
permitted continued-use conditions;
inspection or monitoring requirements;
replacement or upgrade options;
adapter availability;
support period;
certification consequences.
Installed buildings shall not be abandoned merely because a new interface version has been released. Migration strategies shall consider cost, safety, availability, remaining service life, and disruption.
Where immediate replacement is impractical, governance may authorize restricted operation, increased inspection, capacity reduction, protective adapters, or phased migration.
Deprecation shall not erase documentation, Digital Passports, evidence, or historical compatibility records.
