40. Sensor Cartridge

A Sensor Cartridge measures one or more physical, environmental, operational, structural, or human-relevant conditions and communicates the resulting data through a standardized interface.
Sensor Cartridges may measure:
temperature;
humidity;
air quality;
smoke or hazardous gases;
pressure;
fluid flow;
leakage;
light;
sound;
vibration;
strain;
displacement;
acceleration;
occupancy;
energy consumption;
equipment state;
surface or material condition.
Each Sensor Cartridge shall declare:
measured quantity;
unit;
range;
resolution;
accuracy;
uncertainty;
response time;
sampling rate;
calibration method;
calibration interval;
environmental limits;
drift behavior;
expected service life;
diagnostic capability;
failure indication.
The measurement location and orientation shall be defined. A correctly functioning sensor installed in an unsuitable position does not produce valid system evidence.
Sensor Cartridges shall report data quality and health status. Missing, stale, saturated, out-of-range, uncalibrated, estimated, or suspect data shall be distinguishable from valid measurement.
Safety-critical decisions shall not rely upon an unverified single sensor where redundancy or independent confirmation is required by the risk classification.
Calibration records, replacement history, firmware version, and sensor identity shall remain associated with the measured data.
Privacy-sensitive sensors—including cameras, microphones, occupancy, and behavioral sensors—shall follow explicit authorization, data-minimization, local-control, retention, and visibility requirements.
Standard sensor schemas, calibration classes, accuracy requirements, and privacy classifications remain TBD.
