7. Interface Classification

System05 interfaces shall be classified so that appropriate requirements can be applied consistently across the platform.
Classification shall consider the function performed by the interface, the domains involved, the safety consequence of failure, the expected lifecycle, the frequency of engagement, the degree of reversibility, environmental exposure, required access, intelligence level, and compatibility scope.
Interfaces may be classified as permanent, semi-permanent, replaceable, frequently connectable, or temporary. Permanent interfaces are intended to remain engaged throughout the service life of the associated assembly. Semi-permanent interfaces may be released during major maintenance or renovation. Replaceable interfaces support planned component substitution. Frequently connectable interfaces support repeated engagement and release. Temporary interfaces serve manufacturing, transportation, assembly, testing, construction support, or emergency purposes.
Interfaces may be passive, active, or intelligent. Passive interfaces operate without controlled energy or digital communication. Active interfaces transfer energy, materials, movement, or controlled services. Intelligent interfaces possess identification, sensing, communication, logic, state reporting, negotiation, or self-diagnostic capability.
Interfaces may be standardized as universal, domain-wide, family-specific, profile-specific, regional, project-specific, transitional, or experimental. Universal interfaces are intended for broad use throughout the System05 ecosystem. More limited classifications shall clearly declare their restricted compatibility.
Interfaces shall also be assigned a criticality classification. Criticality shall reflect the potential consequences of incorrect selection, incompatibility, failure, unauthorized operation, or loss of function. Higher-criticality interfaces shall require stronger evidence, stricter configuration control, greater fault tolerance, and more rigorous certification.
A distinction shall be maintained between physical fit and complete compatibility. Two components may connect geometrically while remaining incompatible in capacity, voltage, pressure, communication protocol, environmental resistance, control authority, software version, or safety classification.
Classification data shall be included within the machine-readable Interface Descriptor and associated physical identification. Engineers, installers, Building BIOS, the Engineering Compiler, and robotic systems shall be able to determine the type and applicable requirements of an interface before permitting engagement or operation.
An interface may possess multiple simultaneous classifications. The complete classification record shall therefore be treated as a structured technical identity rather than a single descriptive label.
