Interface & Cartridge Architecture

Replacement removes an existing Cartridge and installs another Cartridge to restore or modify the approved function.

Replacement shall be possible without redesigning the host when the new Cartridge:

conforms to the required interface class;

satisfies or exceeds the project requirements;

is compatible with the host and connected systems;

fits within the approved envelope;

preserves safety and regulatory compliance;

supports required lifecycle functions.

Replacement shall follow a controlled sequence:

identify the existing Cartridge and dependencies;

confirm authorization and replacement purpose;

determine whether the building can operate during removal;

establish temporary support or utility bypass where required;

isolate loads, energy, fluids, commands, and hazards;

record the pre-removal condition;

perform safe disconnection;

inspect the host interface;

address damage or contamination;

verify compatibility of the replacement;

install and commission the new Cartridge;

update the Building BIOS and Digital Twin;

classify the removed Cartridge for repair, reuse, recycling, or disposal.

A replacement Cartridge need not be identical to the removed Cartridge. It may use newer technology, different internal materials, or a different manufacturer, provided that all required interfaces and capabilities remain compatible.

If the replacement has lower capability, its use shall require engineering approval and a recorded change to the building configuration.

Structural Cartridge replacement shall include a verified load-transfer or shoring plan. Utility Cartridge replacement shall provide temporary caps, isolation, or bypasses. Safety Cartridge replacement shall maintain equivalent temporary protection.

The removed Cartridge’s identity shall remain intact and shall not be transferred to the replacement.
