Interface & Cartridge Architecture

Building BIOS is the authoritative configuration and coordination layer responsible for recognizing System05 components and controlling their permitted participation in a specific building.

When a Cartridge is introduced, Building BIOS shall:

discover or receive its identity;

authenticate its records;

retrieve its Digital Interface Descriptor and Passport;

determine the intended host and location;

verify compatibility;

check project and Regional Engineering Profiles;

authorize or reject connection;

supervise required connection states;

record commissioning;

assign operating permissions;

monitor relevant state and fault events;

update the building configuration.

Building BIOS shall maintain the distinction between:

physically present;

physically connected;

digitally discovered;

authenticated;

compatible;

commissioned;

authorized;

operational.

A physically installed Cartridge shall not automatically receive electrical power, network access, control authority, or safety-system participation.

Building BIOS shall maintain dependency relationships. Before isolation, replacement, or upgrade, it shall identify other systems relying upon the Cartridge.

For offline or non-electronic Cartridges, Building BIOS may use scanned identity, approved installation records, and manual verification.

Building BIOS shall not replace independent local safety functions. Critical protection shall remain available during BIOS failure where required by the safety architecture.

The precise boundary between Building BIOS, local controllers, Digital Twin services, and cloud systems remains TBD and shall be defined through a dedicated Building BIOS specification.
