19. Safety & Emergency Interfaces

Safety and Emergency Interfaces prevent hazardous events, limit their consequences, communicate critical conditions, and support emergency isolation, access, response, and recovery.
These interfaces may include:
emergency electrical disconnects;
water and gas shutoffs;
fire and smoke barriers;
pressure-relief devices;
structural emergency supports;
manual overrides;
alarm interfaces;
emergency communication points;
responder identification systems;
evacuation-support systems;
safe access and rescue points.
Each Safety Interface shall define the hazard addressed, initiating condition, detection method, required response, response time, protected zone, responsible component, backup method, manual override, reset conditions, and required evidence.
Safety functions shall be assigned a criticality level based upon the foreseeable consequences of failure. The criticality level shall determine requirements for redundancy, independence, monitoring, testing, access control, documentation, and certification.
A safety function shall not depend upon a single general-purpose communication service where loss of that service could create an unacceptable condition. Local autonomous protection shall be provided where necessary.
Emergency controls shall remain identifiable and operable under foreseeable emergency conditions, including power loss, communication failure, smoke, water exposure, restricted visibility, partial structural damage, and loss of normal access.
Emergency isolation shall be selective where practicable. A failed Cartridge or utility branch should be isolated without unnecessarily disabling unrelated building functions.
Where complete shutdown would create a greater hazard, the interface shall support defined degraded or emergency operating modes.
Safety Interfaces shall communicate their real state rather than only the commanded state. A shutoff command, for example, shall not be recorded as successful isolation unless the relevant physical state has been verified.
Manual override shall be controlled but available to authorized persons where required. Every override shall have a defined effect, duration, reset process, indication, and lifecycle record.
Fire-related interfaces shall preserve required compartmentation across joints, penetrations, removable Cartridges, utility connections, and structural Nodes. Replacement or maintenance shall not leave fire barriers incomplete without a visible and digitally recorded temporary condition.
Emergency information associated with an interface shall remain available locally where reliance upon remote cloud access would cause unacceptable delay. This may include identity, hazard type, isolation procedure, stored-energy warning, rescue access, and safe-disassembly instructions.
Detailed safety-integrity classes, response-time requirements, emergency markings, redundancy rules, and mappings to applicable codes remain TBD and shall be established separately for each interface family and Engineering Profile.
