4. Interface Domains

System05 interfaces may operate across one or more engineering domains. Interface domains identify the types of interaction occurring across a boundary and determine the requirements, evidence, controls, and responsibilities applicable to that interaction.
The structural domain governs the transfer of axial force, shear, bending moment, torsion, vibration, impact, and combined structural actions. Structural interfaces shall define load paths, capacity limits, stiffness characteristics, deformation allowances, locking behavior, failure modes, inspection requirements, and residual performance.
The mechanical domain governs physical engagement, movement, fastening, restraint, alignment, actuation, rotation, translation, sealing pressure, and other mechanical relationships not defined solely by structural load transfer.
The electrical domain governs the transfer and control of electrical power. Electrical interfaces shall define voltage, current, frequency, polarity, grounding, bonding, insulation, fault protection, isolation, connector behavior, environmental protection, and safe disconnection.
The fluid domain governs the controlled transfer of water, wastewater, air, gas, refrigerants, fuels, fire-suppression media, and other liquids or gases. These interfaces shall define pressure, flow, direction, material compatibility, sealing, leakage detection, contamination prevention, isolation, drainage, and emergency shutoff.
The thermal domain governs heat transfer and thermal separation. It includes conductive, convective, and radiative interactions, thermal bridging, insulation continuity, expansion, temperature limits, condensation risk, and fire-related thermal behavior.
The environmental domain governs interactions involving air, moisture, vapor, rain, dust, sound, light, radiation, biological exposure, corrosion agents, and other environmental conditions crossing or acting upon a boundary.
The data and communication domain governs the exchange of digital information between components and systems. It includes data structures, communication protocols, timing, addressing, authentication, integrity, availability, cybersecurity, fault handling, and version compatibility.
The control domain governs commands, responses, permissions, automation states, operating modes, priorities, interlocks, overrides, emergency control, and authority relationships between components.
The human domain governs interaction with occupants, installers, inspectors, maintainers, emergency responders, and other authorized persons. It includes physical access, usability, labeling, warnings, manual controls, accessibility, ergonomics, and protection against foreseeable misuse.
The robotic domain governs machine perception, approach, handling, orientation, alignment, engagement, fastening, verification, release, and recovery. A robotic interface shall provide sufficient physical and digital information for safe automated interaction.
The digital identity domain governs the persistent association between a physical interface and its digital representation. It includes unique identification, product records, version data, certification status, lifecycle history, ownership of authoritative information, and connection to the Digital Twin.
The safety domain governs protective functions that prevent, isolate, limit, or communicate hazardous conditions. Safety interfaces may include structural restraints, fire barriers, emergency power isolation, pressure relief, alarms, access restrictions, and fail-safe control relationships.
An interface may belong to several domains simultaneously. A utility Cartridge connection, for example, may contain mechanical alignment, electrical power, water, wastewater, data communication, thermal separation, digital identity, human access, and robotic handling within a single coordinated interface assembly.
Multi-domain interfaces shall be designed as integrated systems. Requirements from one domain shall not be satisfied in a manner that creates unacceptable risk or incompatibility in another domain.
