1. Introduction

System05 is founded on the principle that the future of construction depends not upon the universal standardization of complete products, materials, or building systems, but upon the standardization of the boundaries through which independently developed components interact.
Conventional buildings are assembled from products originating from different manufacturers, engineering disciplines, regulatory systems, and technological generations. Although these products may individually satisfy applicable technical requirements, their interfaces are frequently project-specific, incompatible, undocumented, concealed, or dependent upon proprietary installation methods. This fragmentation increases engineering effort, construction cost, installation risk, maintenance difficulty, and dependence upon specialized labor.
System05 addresses this problem by establishing a universal interface architecture for the built environment.
Within System05, an interface is not merely a physical point of connection. It is a formally defined engineering boundary through which two or more components exchange forces, energy, materials, information, commands, environmental effects, or human access. Every System05 interface therefore represents a controlled relationship governed by declared requirements, responsibilities, capabilities, limitations, states, and evidence.
The Interface Architecture enables manufacturers to develop different internal solutions while preserving external compatibility. A structural member may use timber, steel, concrete, composite material, or a future material without altering the constitutional interface through which it participates in the platform. Similarly, a functional Cartridge may evolve internally across multiple technological generations while remaining compatible with the building infrastructure through its standardized external interfaces.
This separation between internal implementation and external interaction is essential to the long-term evolution of System05. It permits innovation without fragmentation, competition without incompatibility, and technological advancement without requiring the complete replacement of existing buildings.
The Interface Architecture shall support physical construction, digital engineering, robotic assembly, inspection, maintenance, replacement, upgrading, emergency response, decommissioning, and reuse. Interfaces shall therefore be treated as lifecycle assets rather than temporary construction details.
This document establishes the constitutional foundation for defining, classifying, documenting, validating, certifying, and governing interfaces and Cartridges throughout the System05 ecosystem. Detailed technical dimensions, performance thresholds, communication protocols, test procedures, and regional adaptations shall be established through subordinate specifications and Engineering Profiles consistent with the principles defined herein.
