Interface & Cartridge Architecture

Every System05 interface shall operate through a defined state model. State names may be specialized by domain, but their meaning and permitted transitions shall remain explicit.

The general interface states are:

Unidentified: identity has not been established;

Identified: interface identity has been read;

Verified: identity and declared data have been authenticated;

Available: interface is ready for a connection process;

Reserved: interface has been assigned to a planned connection;

Approaching: the mating component is inside the controlled approach process;

Aligned: alignment conditions are within the permitted capture range;

Partially Engaged: physical engagement has begun but is incomplete;

Seated: final datum position has been reached;

Locked: required retention mechanisms are complete;

Connected: physical connection has been verified;

Commissioning: testing and negotiation are in progress;

Operational: approved functions are active;

Degraded: operation continues with reduced capabilities;

Faulted: a condition prevents normal operation;

Isolated: hazardous energy, pressure, motion, commands, or loads have been controlled;

Maintenance: authorized inspection or service activity is in progress;

Release-Ready: all disconnection preconditions are satisfied;

Disconnected: the participating sides are separated;

Decommissioned: the interface is permanently removed from authorized service.

The state model shall define:

entry conditions;

permitted actions;

prohibited actions;

required monitoring;

exit conditions;

permissible next states;

responsible authority;

generated events.

Physical, digital, and declared states may differ temporarily. Such disagreement shall be treated as a State Conflict and resolved before safety-critical operation continues.

An interface shall not be reported as Operational merely because connected equipment is functioning. Operational status requires successful completion of all applicable verification and commissioning requirements.
