21. Connection Sequence

Every connectable System05 interface shall have a defined connection sequence. The sequence shall describe the controlled transition from separated components to a verified and commissioned interface.
The general System05 connection sequence consists of:
- Planning Confirm that the intended connection is authorized by the design and current building configuration.
- Discovery Identify the participating components and locate their interfaces.
- Identity Verification Read and verify the Type Identity and Instance Identity of each interface side.
Compatibility Precheck Compare geometry, capacity, version, environment, safety class, and required capabilities before physical engagement.
Condition Assessment Inspect for damage, contamination, corrosion, deformation, missing seals, outdated configuration, or previous fault status.
Hazard Isolation Remove or control structural load, electrical energy, pressure, temperature, stored mechanical energy, hazardous fluids, and automated movement as applicable.
- Approach Preparation Confirm that the approach, service, and exclusion envelopes are available.
- Orientation Place the incoming component in the required nominal orientation.
- Coarse Alignment Bring the corresponding datums and guide features within the permitted capture range.
- Initial Engagement Enter the lead-in region without activating primary locking, sealing, or energy transfer.
Final Alignment and Seating Establish the controlled final position against the designated datums and seating surfaces.
- Primary Locking Activate the load-resisting or retention mechanism.
- Secondary Retention Activate an independent restraint where required by the interface class.
- Seal Completion Complete and verify environmental or fluid sealing.
- Passive Verification Confirm seating, fastener position, locking, clearances, and visible indicators.
Active Verification Perform electrical continuity, pressure, communication, sensor, authentication, or other applicable tests.
- Capability Negotiation Establish the mutually supported operating capabilities.
- Commissioning Authorize the interface for its intended service.
- Record Creation Write the completed connection event and evidence package to the Digital Thread.
Steps that do not apply may be formally omitted by the relevant Interface Contract. Their omission shall be explicit rather than assumed.
The sequence shall contain hold points beyond which installation cannot continue until required conditions have been verified. High-criticality interfaces may require inspection or authorization by an independent person or system at specified hold points.
If a step fails, the protocol shall define whether the process returns to an earlier safe state, enters a recoverable fault state, or requires removal and investigation.
