95. Work Zones and Access Control

Robotic sites shall use defined and controlled work zones appropriate to the hazards of each operation.
Zones may include:
- Robot-exclusive zones.
- Human–robot collaborative zones.
- Restricted approach zones.
- Suspended-load zones.
- Tool-operation zones.
- Utility-hazard zones.
- Material-staging areas.
- Safe observation locations.
- Emergency access routes.
Each zone shall have a unique identity, current geometry, active state, hazard classification, access rules, and controlling authority.
Zone controls may include barriers, gates, interlocks, floor markings, warning lights, badges, digital permissions, spotters, and safety-rated presence detection. Administrative markings alone shall not be relied upon where physical entry creates an immediate high-consequence hazard.
Temporary changes to zone boundaries shall be recorded and communicated to robots, workers, supervisors, and emergency systems.
Access authorization shall consider role, training, current task state, required protective equipment, and whether hazardous energy or suspended loads are present.
Unauthorized or unexpected entry shall trigger the response defined for the active safety mode. Work shall not resume merely because the person has left; zone integrity and affected physical states shall be reverified.
