25. Payload and Center-of-Mass Information

Every robotically handled component shall provide reliable payload information appropriate to the task.
Relevant information may include:
- Nominal mass.
- Maximum permitted mass.
- Mass uncertainty.
- Center-of-mass location.
- Center-of-mass tolerance region.
- Principal orientation.
- Inertia information where required.
- Approved lifting orientation.
- Permitted acceleration.
- Maximum rotation rate.
- Deflection during lifting.
- Dynamic load limitations.
- Effects of contained fluids or movable contents.
Payload information shall reflect the component’s actual lifecycle state. Packaging, moisture, temporary hardware, attached Cartridges, stored materials, ice, debris, or incomplete drainage may materially change mass or center of mass.
For consequential lifts, the robot or lifting system should compare expected weight with measured load. A significant discrepancy shall trigger a stop, inspection, or revised plan.
The robotic work package shall verify that:
- Robot payload capacity is sufficient.
- End-effector capacity is sufficient.
- Lifting features are qualified.
- The planned configuration remains stable.
- Required safety margins are maintained throughout the trajectory.
- Braking or power-loss conditions remain safe.
Payload data shall be linked to component identity and version. Generic values shall not replace component-specific information where variation could affect safety.
