23. Fiducials and Machine-Readable Markers

System05 components may use fiducials and machine-readable markers to support identity, localization, orientation, measurement, and state verification.
Markers may include:
- QR codes.
- Data Matrix codes.
- Barcodes.
- RFID or NFC tags.
- Optical fiducials.
- Reflective targets.
- Geometric patterns.
- Magnetic references.
- Embedded electronic identifiers.
- Human-readable labels.
Marker architecture should provide redundancy appropriate to consequence. A robot should not depend on a single exposed visual label for a high-consequence task when damage, dirt, lighting, occlusion, or replacement could make that label unreliable.
Markers shall be:
- Uniquely associated with the applicable component or Interface.
- Positioned relative to a defined datum.
- Durable for the intended environment.
- Accessible during the required lifecycle stages.
- Resistant to accidental duplication or substitution.
- Versioned where their interpretation may change.
- Verifiable against an authoritative registry where required.
A marker may direct the robot to authoritative information, but the marker itself shall not be assumed to contain all current instructions.
Loss or unreadability of a marker shall not automatically permit identity inference from appearance alone. Alternative identification and verification procedures shall be defined.
Markers used for safety-relevant authorization or configuration shall include appropriate authentication and tamper-detection controls.
