39. Component and Surface Damage Prevention

Robotic interaction shall prevent damage that could reduce structural performance, durability, fire resistance, environmental sealing, appearance, sensing capability, or future maintainability.
Component data shall identify:
- Approved contact surfaces.
- No-contact zones.
- Fragile edges.
- Coated areas.
- Sealing surfaces.
- Fire-protection layers.
- FRP or composite surfaces.
- Embedded sensors.
- Utility locations.
- Maximum contact pressure.
- Permitted clamping force.
- Surface cleanliness requirements.
- End effectors should use appropriate pads, compliant surfaces, load distribution, and contamination controls.
The robotic system shall detect or limit:
- Excessive grip force.
- Impact.
- Scraping.
- Edge crushing.
- Puncture.
- Abrasion.
- Coating removal.
- Seal deformation.
- Permanent bending.
- Local composite damage.
- Hidden internal damage.
After an abnormal contact, dropped load, overload, collision, or forced insertion, the component shall not automatically return to normal use. Inspection requirements shall be determined according to the event and component criticality.
Protective packaging and temporary surface protection shall remain identifiable and shall not obstruct required datums, markers, locks, or inspection points. Removal of protection shall be included in the work package where necessary.
