18. Robotic Handling of Cartridges

Cartridges shall be designed as replaceable integration elements capable of supporting predictable human and robotic handling.
A Cartridge intended for robotic interaction should provide:
- Unique identity.
- Type and version information.
- Compatible Node and Interface profiles.
- Defined orientation.
- Mass and center-of-mass data.
- Approved grasping or lifting features.
- Protected handling surfaces.
- Approach and insertion directions.
- Alignment geometry.
- Capture-state indication.
- Final-lock-state indication.
- Tool requirements.
- Removal instructions.
- Inspection points.
- Known hazards and limitations.
The Cartridge’s standardized external envelope shall remain compatible with the applicable Node Interface while allowing internal design variation by material, manufacturer, region, and function.
The handling process should distinguish among:
- Storage state.
- Transport state.
- Grasped state.
- Pre-alignment state.
- Partial insertion.
- Temporary capture.
- Final engagement.
- Verified service state.
- Unloading state.
- Removal state.
A robot shall not lift a Cartridge from an unapproved surface or apply force through a functional, sealed, coated, sensor-bearing, or fragile area unless that contact is explicitly permitted.
Cartridges shall support controlled removal without destructive access wherever replaceability is required. Removal procedures shall account for structural load, utility isolation, surrounding components, finish protection, temporary support, and Digital Twin reconciliation.
