24. Grasping and Lifting Features

Components intended for robotic handling shall provide approved grasping or lifting features appropriate to their mass, geometry, material, surface condition, and expected handling environment.
Features may include:
- Gripping surfaces.
- Lifting eyes.
- Embedded anchors.
- Fork pockets.
- Vacuum-compatible surfaces.
- Magnetic lifting zones.
- Clamp interfaces.
- Robotic handles.
- Temporary lifting Cartridges.
- Standardized lifting adapters.
Each feature shall define:
- Rated load.
- Permitted load direction.
- Safety factor.
- Compatible tool class.
- Required engagement depth.
- Lock or retention method.
- Wear and inspection limits.
- Environmental restrictions.
- Prohibited uses.
- Removal or concealment procedure where applicable.
Grasping points shall be positioned to support stable handling and to control component rotation. They shall not transfer loads through fragile finishes, utility connectors, seals, sensors, or structurally unqualified surfaces.
The robot shall verify grasp engagement before lifting. Verification may use:
- Mechanical lock state.
- Force response.
- Vacuum level.
- Clamp displacement.
- Visual confirmation.
- Load-cell measurement.
- Redundant sensing.
Temporary lifting accessories shall remain identifiable and traceable. Removal of lifting devices shall not leave unsafe openings, corrosion paths, unprotected penetrations, or false connection indicators.
