27. Capture and Guided Engagement

Capture is the controlled transition through which a component becomes temporarily retained after reaching an appropriate engagement state.
Capture shall be distinguishable from final structural locking. A captured component may be safely retained for a defined temporary condition without yet being approved for service or final load transfer.
Capture mechanisms may include:
- Mechanical hooks.
- Spring latches.
- Gravity seats.
- Retaining clips.
- Captive pins.
- Wedge guides.
- Temporary bolts.
- Magnetic assistance.
- Reversible clamps.
- Dedicated temporary-support Cartridges.
A capture mechanism shall define:
- Minimum engagement.
- Activation condition.
- Retention capacity.
- Permitted temporary loads.
- Physical state indication.
- Sensor or inspection method.
- Release procedure.
- Failure behavior.
- Compatibility with repositioning.
- Relationship to final locking.
Guided engagement should prevent sudden uncontrolled movement, dropped components, pinch conditions, and damage to Interfaces.
The robot shall not release the component until capture and temporary stability have been verified. Capture confirmation should not rely solely on the robot reaching a commanded pose.
An incomplete capture shall remain visibly and digitally distinguishable from both a fully captured state and a final locked state.
