6. Product-Based Construction and Platform Manufacturing

System05 shall advance construction from predominantly project-specific fabrication toward a product-based platform model while preserving the ability to respond to regional and project-specific needs.
Nodes, Cartridges, Interfaces, members, panels, service modules, and related elements shall be treated as governed products with:
- Defined identities.
- Controlled versions.
- Declared functions.
- Compatibility requirements.
- Manufacturing definitions.
- Acceptance criteria.
- Evidence requirements.
- Lifecycle responsibilities.
Product-based construction shall not mean that every building is identical. Standardized platform elements shall support controlled combinations, variants, materials, dimensions, architectural expressions, and regional adaptations.
Platform manufacturing shall distinguish:
- Stable platform Interfaces.
- Reusable product architectures.
- Product-family common elements.
- Configurable options.
- Region-specific implementations.
- Project-specific parameters.
- Experimental extensions.
The external compatibility envelope should remain stable for a governed version even when internal product design or manufacturing methods evolve.
Manufacturers may compete through:
- Material efficiency.
- Internal geometry.
- Production technology.
- durability.
- cost.
- delivery time.
- environmental performance.
- repairability.
- embedded intelligence.
- regional adaptation.
- Competition shall not depend on obscuring Interface behavior or creating unnecessary vendor lock-in.
Platform products shall support repeatable manufacturing and inspection. Critical characteristics should be reusable across product families, and common reference fixtures, gauges, test methods, and digital definitions should be developed where practical.
A product-family change that affects Interface behavior, structural performance, fire behavior, sealing, durability, identification, installation sequence, or required tooling shall not be treated as a cosmetic variant.
Product-based construction shall permit manufacturing learning to accumulate across projects. A known production problem shall not be reset to zero merely because the component is supplied to a different building.
The objective shall be to create a continuously improving industrial platform in which buildings remain configurable while their essential production and compatibility relationships become repeatable, testable, and scalable.
