2. Manufacturing Philosophy

System05 shall treat manufacturing as the controlled realization of engineering intent rather than as an isolated downstream activity.
The manufacturing philosophy shall be based on the following principles:
- Standardize what must remain compatible.
- Permit freedom where internal variation does not compromise compatibility or safety.
- Design quality into products and processes.
- Detect variation before it reaches assembly or service.
- Preserve traceability from source material to installed component.
- Use evidence proportional to consequence and uncertainty.
- Support local production without lowering essential requirements.
- Prefer simple, robust processes where they provide adequate capability.
- Introduce automation where it produces measurable value.
- Preserve human authority for consequential decisions.
- Continuously return manufacturing knowledge to design and governance.
A System05-compatible component shall not be defined only by its nominal geometry. Its manufacturing definition may also include material properties, Interface characteristics, tolerances, surface conditions, process restrictions, inspection obligations, identification requirements, evidence requirements, and permitted variation.
Quality shall not depend solely on final inspection. It shall be created through:
- Clear engineering definitions.
- Capable processes.
- Qualified resources.
- Controlled materials.
- Correct setup.
- In-process monitoring.
- Appropriate measurement.
- Protected configuration.
- Competent personnel.
- Traceable release decisions.
System05 shall reject the assumption that centralized mass production is always superior or that local production is inherently less reliable. Production architecture shall be selected according to product consequence, demand, process capability, regional resources, logistics, cost, resilience, and evidence quality.
Manufacturers may protect legitimate proprietary knowledge concerning internal geometry, tooling, process sequence, software, or production methods. However, proprietary status shall not be used to conceal information required to establish safety, compatibility, certification, traceability, or investigation of a failure.
Manufacturing improvement shall remain evidence-driven. Lower cost, faster output, or higher automation shall not justify a change that reduces compatibility, inspectability, repairability, traceability, or lifecycle performance without explicit authorization.
