5. From Engineering Intent to Physical Product

System05 shall establish a traceable transformation from approved engineering intent to the released physical product.
Engineering intent may originate from:
- BDL definitions.
- System05 Interface specifications.
- Engineering Profiles.
- Product specifications.
- Approved drawings and models.
- Performance requirements.
- Regulatory requirements.
- Certified reference designs.
- Project-specific engineering decisions.
Before production, applicable engineering intent shall be transformed into a controlled Manufacturing Definition. This transformation may include:
- Manufacturing geometry.
- Material and condition requirements.
- Tolerances.
- Datums.
- Surface requirements.
- Process restrictions.
- Joining requirements.
- Inspection characteristics.
- Acceptance criteria.
- Identification and marking.
- Packaging and preservation requirements.
- Evidence obligations.
The manufacturing organization shall confirm that the received definition is complete, internally consistent, understandable, producible, and applicable to the intended product version.
Ambiguities, conflicting dimensions, missing tolerances, undefined materials, unsupported processes, or unclear acceptance criteria shall be resolved before consequential production. Production personnel shall not silently infer engineering intent where multiple interpretations could affect safety, compatibility, or performance.
Derived manufacturing information—including toolpaths, process recipes, fixtures, inspection programs, and work instructions—shall remain linked to the approved source definition.
Physical production shall preserve control over:
- Material identity.
- Product identity.
- Equipment configuration.
- Tooling.
- software and machine-program versions.
- Environmental conditions where relevant.
- Operator or robot authorization.
- Inspection status.
- Nonconformance status.
- Release authority.
The final product shall be reconciled against the approved definition. Where permitted variation, repair, concession, or substitution has occurred, the As-Manufactured Record shall identify the actual condition.
Digital completion and physical completion shall remain distinct. A production operation marked complete in software shall not establish that the corresponding physical operation occurred correctly.
The transformation shall be complete only when the physical product, its identity, its required evidence, and its release status agree.
