37. Datum, Coordinate and Reference Architecture

Every System05 product requiring geometric control shall use a defined datum, coordinate, and reference architecture.
Datums shall represent functional product relationships rather than convenient but irrelevant manufacturing surfaces.
The datum architecture shall support:
- Manufacturing setup.
- fixture location.
- toolpath generation.
- inspection.
- assembly.
- robotic localization.
- Digital Twin registration.
- lifecycle measurement.
Primary, secondary, and tertiary datums shall constrain the required degrees of freedom without unnecessary redundancy or ambiguity.
Datum transfer between operations shall be minimized. Where transfer is necessary, its uncertainty and tolerance effects shall be evaluated.
Temporary manufacturing datums may differ from final functional datums but shall remain traceably related.
Node, Cartridge, member, panel, and Interface coordinate systems shall be compatible through defined transformations.
Symmetrical parts shall include orientation references where incorrect reversal could affect function.
Datum features shall be accessible, durable, and protected from uncontrolled damage where they remain relevant after production.
Reference architecture shall include rules for:
- Units.
- axis orientation.
- origin.
- handedness.
- angular convention.
- transformation.
- measurement temperature where relevant.
- model-to-physical registration.
A coordinate transformation used by CAD, CAM, metrology, robots, or the Digital Twin shall be verified. Silent axis reversal, scale conversion, or origin shift shall be prohibited.
