5. Constitutional Principles

- Every BDL implementation shall satisfy the following principles.
- Explicit Identity Every independently traceable building entity shall possess a persistent identity.
- Explicit Units No safety- or performance-relevant quantity shall depend upon an undocumented unit assumption.
Explicit Relationships Structural support, Interface connection, utility supply, control authority, and dependency shall be represented through typed relationships.
Explicit Uncertainty Unknown, assumed, estimated, proposed, and verified values shall remain distinguishable.
Separation of Type and Instance A product definition shall remain distinguishable from an individually manufactured or installed product.
Separation of Intent and Reality As-Designed, As-Manufactured, As-Installed, As-Commissioned, and As-Operated configurations shall not be silently merged.
Deterministic Interpretation Valid BDL shall produce consistent semantic interpretation across compliant tools.
Controlled Extension Extensions shall not alter core semantics or create hidden proprietary incompatibility.
Traceable Change Every accepted revision shall identify what changed, why it changed, and which authority approved it.
Validation Before Activation BDL shall not become an active BIOS configuration without compilation, validation, authorization, and applicable commissioning.
- Vendor Neutrality BDL shall represent products from different manufacturers through common System05 semantics.
- Human Accountability Automated generation shall not remove responsibility for engineering review and approval.
