36. Spatial Boundaries

A Spatial Boundary defines the limit between two Spaces or between a Space and an external or unassigned environment.
Boundary Types may include:
wall;
floor;
ceiling;
roof;
façade;
door;
window;
opening;
virtual division;
site boundary;
fire barrier;
environmental-control layer.
Each Boundary shall define:
Boundary ID;
adjacent Space on each side;
geometry;
orientation;
physical or virtual status;
host assembly;
openings;
performance requirements;
applicable evidence.

Boundary orientation shall identify which side is interior, exterior, upstream, downstream, positive, or negative where required.
A physical wall and the spatial boundary derived from it shall remain separate Entities. One wall may support several boundary functions, and a virtual boundary may exist without a physical wall.
Boundary continuity shall be validated across:
corners;
joints;
Interfaces;
penetrations;
openings;
Cartridge edges;
structural Nodes.
Changes to a Boundary shall trigger evaluation of adjacent Space properties, fire zones, thermal zones, ventilation, acoustics, moisture control, and access.
