58. Building Envelope Representation

The Building Envelope shall represent the coordinated systems separating conditioned, occupied, protected, or controlled spaces from exterior or differently conditioned environments.
The Envelope Model shall include:
walls;
roofs;
floors over exterior or ground;
foundations;
windows;
doors;
joints;
penetrations;
façade Cartridges;
insulation;
air-control layers;
vapor-control layers;
water-control layers;
thermal bridges;
fire and acoustic layers.
Each envelope Assembly shall define its ordered layers:

thickness;
continuity;
function;
environmental exposure;
attachment;
joints;
penetrations;
inspection requirements.
The Envelope Model shall represent continuity across:
wall-to-foundation joints;
wall-to-roof joints;
corners;
openings;
Interfaces;
Nodes;
Cartridge perimeters;
utility penetrations.
Performance requirements may include:
thermal resistance;
air leakage;
water resistance;
vapor behavior;
condensation control;
fire resistance;
acoustics;
durability.
Envelope performance shall be evaluated in the assembled condition rather than from isolated material properties alone.
