82. Configuration Resolution Engine

The Configuration Resolution Engine determines the exact set of entities, alternatives, parameters, versions, states, and relationships that constitute a compilation target.
It shall process:
base configurations;
inherited templates;
optional components;
alternatives;
feature selections;
project parameters;
profile-derived defaults;
manufacturer selections;
substitutions;
lifecycle modifications;
- staged and proposed configurations.
- The engine shall distinguish between unresolved design space and a resolved executable configuration.
A configuration may be valid for conceptual evaluation while remaining insufficient for manufacturing, construction, commissioning, or operation.
Configuration selection shall respect identity, compatibility, constraints, authority, certification, availability, and target requirements.
Defaults shall identify their source and shall remain visible in the resolved configuration.
Conflicting selections, mutually exclusive alternatives, missing mandatory choices, invalid substitutions, and unauthorized overrides shall produce diagnostics.
The engine shall support comparison between configurations, including proposed versus active BIOS state, design versus as-built condition, and existing versus modified lifecycle configuration.
Every resolved configuration shall receive an identity and shall preserve a complete record of the decisions and sources that produced it.
